New year, new start: The laundry sector looks to better times ahead in 2021

As 2020 draws to a close, no-one needs reminding of the effect of the pandemic on the laundry industry.

Linen management companies were hit especially hard when the hospitality sector ground to a halt in March.

Though hotels, guesthouses, restaurants and other venues were able to open their doors from July, the second lockdown caused further disruption at a time when the majority of such businesses were barely back on their feet.

And, sadly, not all of them have made it through this unprecedented year.

This time 12 months ago, our major concern was Brexit – yet the complexities of leaving the EU were almost forgotten by many, as coronavirus spread and permeated almost every element of business life.

However there is now light at the end of the tunnel – and laundries, along with the rest of the world, are buoyed by the recent news that a vaccine is definitely on the way, meaning cycles of lockdown and tiering look set to ease in 2021.

Depleted but not defeated

So where is the laundry sector now? On the whole, the answer is depleted – but certainly not defeated. Many long-established and newer players are beginning to recover and feel able to begin to plan ahead for the first time in many months.

After so much uncertainty, first and foremost, laundries will need to save money. Secondly, they will be looking to pick up where they left off in early 2020 – with their longer-term business hopes and ambitions, including achieving low carbon ideals.

Regenex, which suffered as much disruption and difficulty as the laundries we serve, can help on both counts – by helping linen providers make the most of every piece of stock, and to save cash and the world’s resources.

What’s next for Regenex?

Our company was born from innovation – as a start-up back in 2017, we pioneered and patented our unique stain and discolouration removal process – and we are continuing to develop new treatments for linen.

These include over-dyeing of items such as hospital scrubs and working on anti-viral treatments and investigating methods of removing sanitiser stains, which have become a new and particular problem this year.

During 2020 we have been lucky enough to retain many customers and welcome new ones, too – and we thank all of these for their continued support. May we all work together for a long time to come.

Regenex continues to offer a free 400kg trial to any new customer. Contact us to find out more.
